The main objective is to total as close to 9 as possible. Pictures
and 10s count as ten. The remaining cards count at their face
value. Ace counts as 1 point. When the calculation of points
is made tens are discarded. For example, combination of 9 and
5 counts 4, as 9 plus 5 equals 14, tens are discarded, 4 remain.
The strongest combination in the game is 9 points. When the
amount of points on both cards counts 9 this combination is
called "natural" and it can't lose. 8 points on
both cards is also called "natural", but this combination
is weaker than 9 points.
Before cards are dealt, players place bets in their boxes.
There are 3 kinds of bets: on the Player's side, on the Bank
side or on a Tie. Each player places the bet on his part of
the table. Baccarat is played with six full decks of cards.
Cards are dealt face up by turns to the players and to the
dealer. As a result both player and dealer get two cards each.
Player's bet on the Bank wins if the amount of dealer's cards
is higher than the amount of player's cards. It is paid 1
to 1. The House charges a 5 percent commission on all winning
Bank wagers.
Player's bet on the Player wins if the amount of his cards
is higher than the amount of dealer's cards. It is paid 1
to 1.
The bet on Tie wins if player and dealer have equal amount
of cards. This bet is paid 8 to 1. If the bet was made on
the Bank or on the Player but the Tie has come out, bets are
given back to the player.
